Structure fire at Canowie Belt - 14 May 2025
Eight CFS trucks carrying 30 volunteers responded to a Triple Zero call at 10am to attend a structure fire at Canowie Belt, located east of Jamestown, in the state’s Mid North.
The fire was reported to be in a shed on a farming property and when volunteer firefighters arrived on scene they found the structure to be well involved.
Firefighters, with the support of several Farm Fire Units, used defensive tactics to prevent the fire from spreading further into the property.
When safe, crew in breathing apparatus entered the shed and continued to extinguish the fire internally.
As a result of their efforts, 4 trucks, a caravan and air seeder were saved.
However, sadly, the shed was lost to the fire, along with 3 trucks, a workshop and its associated equipment, resulting in an estimated damage cost of $1m.
The fire was contained by midday but volunteers remain at the property to mop up and continue monitoring the scene.
SA Police, SA Ambulance Service and SA Power Networks personnel also provided support during this incident.
Fire Cause investigators have been contacted.
